Recently, I have shifted more
into online shopping, because I started to dig in and find better deals
compared to retail stores clearance sales. It took me a bit research and
understanding to see how the clothing or apparel industry functions in
United States. If we understand their operation mechanics, then it is
easy to get clothes for the right price. Note: I said right price
instead of cheap because, there is a misconception that cheap priced

come from India, the wonderland of clothing and fashion. Believe it or
not, it intrigues me to see that Clothing stores in America sell a
Cashmere shawl for 200$, whilst the original cost of a Cashmere shawl
would be say at the max 500 Indian Rupees and the import cost might take
say even 10-20$ for US government. In that case, I am so surprised to
see the way prices are tagged. Sometimes, I see lingerie prices to be
25$ to 75$. Are they made of Gold? Lingerie is made of artificial fibers
and the cost of artificial fibers is less than cotton fibers’ cost. Any
clothing should be priced based on raw material cost, transport cost,
labor cost and then manufacturer’s profit cost. A combined cost of all
mentioned above too, would not account to give lingerie such a cost.
Though the currencies differ, the value of raw material in the global market remains the same. In India, we rate the gold in terms of US currency only. So, let us make a small comparison on this price tag of 25$. This 25$ corresponds to approximately 1250 INR. A good churidhar or salwar kameez (a type of dress Indians wear) or a grand churidhar or salwar kameez in India costs you 300 INR to 1500 INR. A sari or pattu sari (border of the sari made of gold threads) costs you 5000 INR and sometimes saris made of silver thread cost of 1000 INR to 2000 INR. In this case, lingerie in United States costing 25$ to 75$ makes me feel that, I can get a Gold threaded sari in the cost of lingerie.
The
compulsion to buy good lingerie drives the clothing market in United
States crazy. Also, it is common for winter clothes to be cheaply priced
in clearance sale during summer and summer clothes to be cheaply priced
in clearance sale during winter. Retail owners rely on this trend for
their profit and people suffer slightly when they want to buy summer
clothes during summer. If we understand the trend and culture on how the
clothing deals move, we can rightly capture the best deals at the best
time.
